Brian O’Brien

Professor Brian O’Brien orchestrated the only experiments to measure lunar dust on the Moon, where in the words of the only Apollo scientist-astronaut, “Dust was the Number 1 environmental problem.”

He has published 14 discoveries on dust movements and characteristics after analysing the data from the Dust Detector Experiments deployed by Apollo 11, 12, 14 and 15. He was the first Australian awarded the NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement, as Principal Investigator of the charged particle radiation experiment CPLEE deployed by Apollo 14.
